Street Kittens Find Dream Home!

 

    Domino and Checkers were 3-month-old stray 

    kittens found in a feral colony managed by 

    one of our cats' angels. Friendly and healthy, 

    they were good candidates for adoption, 

    and so they were brought inside the shelter.  

Domino and Checkers got lucky: they were adopted together and didn't have to be separated. They now live in their dream home with loving adoptive parents.

Kittens-4-Sale!

Kitten season was in full swing in Austin and everywhere. Cats' Angel Brenda was doing her round feeding her feral cat colonies in a part of town where a stray kitten has little chance to reach adulthood. She came across a man with a basket of tiny kittens and a 4-SALE sign. "How much for the kittens?"she enquired. "$10 each", the man said.

Fifteen minutes later, Brenda was walking to her car with the four babies in her arms. They were so young and scared that at first they didn't touch the food she presented to them once back home.  

Soon, however, they understood that they had landed in a safe place. These lucky kittens will be spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and put up for adoption when old enough.

Pause for a selfie

Mischievous Dazzle and Twinkle were born under a house, then their mother carried them to a trailer that had some hay where they could be kept warm. That is where one of our cats' angels found the tiny babies. Now 12 weeks old, they are perfectly adapted to live with humans and will be looking for a forever home as soon as the 2 girls are vaccinated and spayed. We hope that they will be adopted together as they enjoy each other and play together non-stop.

Cupcake: a Cats' Angel story

Once upon a time a little girl was scrounging for food behind a local restaurant. She hadn’t had any good interactions with humans. A cats' angel trapped her and she was fostered by kind people she slowly learned to trust. They named her Cupcake. She began to explore and one day she discovered a box filled with sheets of gift tissue to shred and toys a plenty. She then knew all was well. 

Then one day Cupcake was tucked into a carrier and brought to a new place that looked and smelled oh so friendly. A big orange boy greeted her and assured her that life was wonderful. Cupcake and Scout became the best of friends and Cupcake now believes she has arrived in heaven.

Cats’ Angels relies on 5 volunteers to carry out our mission of promoting responsible pet ownership and putting an end to pet overpopulation in Austin, Texas. Cats’ Angel Brenda is featured here to illustrate the work our volunteers do. Brenda has been with our organization since 2004 during which time she has spayed/neutered hundreds of strays and ferals and found homes for many of them.

These two brothers with beautiful emerald green eyes were brought to Brenda's front door as kittens by their mother in 2009. There were 4 kittens in the litter. The two females were able to be socialized and were adopted. The two boys didn't have such luck, but they found a home in the comfortable shelter Brenda had built in her backyard.

This young Tom was trapped and is recovering from neuter surgery. He has received his rabies and upper respiratory shots as well as revolution for fleas and de-wormer, and will be returned to his colony after 3 days. He is too feral to be a candidate for adoption but he will continue to be fed and Brenda will watch over him. 

Cats that could not get adopted and didn't have an established colony to return to live their lives in a shelter kept impeccably clean. There is a patio on the side where the residents can hang out for fresh air during the day. 

When Brenda told me that her feeding station for the ferals was invaded by ants, we ordered Diatomaceous Earth to spread around the food bowls. It is food grade and can't hurt the cats, and in fact, it acts as a de-wormer if swallowed by them. It is a natural way to get rid of ants attracted by the food left for the cats.

Beau After Surgery

This is Beau a week after the surgery that relieved his pain. He suffered from a condition called 'entropion' whereby his lower eyelids rolled in so that the eyelashes rubbed against the cornea causing painful ulcers. He is feeling good now, being active and playing with his toys. He has a new lease on life!  His eyes will continue to look better and he is now ready for adoption. And by the way, Beau turned out to be a handsome cross-eyed boy.
 A big thank you to all who donated toward the cost of the surgery, you made it happen! It is wonderful to have so many people respond to help an animal in pain, and I am humbled by your generosity.
Good news: Beau has now been adopted and his new mom adores him!
